The People's Republic of China (PRC), commonly known as Mainland China or simply China for short, is the most populous state in the world, with over 1.3 billion citizens. It is located in East Asia. China has a single-party state governed by the Communist Party of China (CPC). The PRC exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces, five autonomous regions, four directly administered municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Chongqing), and two highly autonomous special administrative regions (SARs) – Hong Kong and Macau.

July 16: China opposes the upcoming meeting between US President Barack Obama and Dalai Lama at the White House. It has asked the US President to cancel the meeting. However, a White House statement said that the meeting will highlight Obama's support for dialogue between representatives of the Dalai Lama and the Chinese government.
