September 11, 2012
AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi will not lead the campaign for the party in the Gujarat Assembly Elections. The Congress party is the of the view that the elections should not be a direct contest between Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi.
Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari, on Tuesday said, "Every state election is fought on the basis of local issues. Congress state unit is well equipped to fight the Gujarat elections". The Congress party appears to be cautious after the Uttar Pradesh poll debacle, where the campaign of the Congress was headed by Rahul Gandhi earlier this year.
Unlike earlier efforts made by Congress to target Modi on the Gujarat violence, the Congress party is contemplating on attacking the BJP party on the development of the state. Meanwhile, The Bharatiya Janata Party has kicked off the election campaign for the assembly polls. Chief Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public meeting at Becharaji. He will conclucde his month long 'Vivekanand Yuva Vikas Yatra' in Sanand.
