Richard Green Lugar, popularly called Dick Lugar is the senior United States Senator from Indiana. He is a member of the Republican Party.

Dick Lugar was first elected to the United States Senate in 1977. He was reelected five times after that. He is currently the third most senior senator and the most senior Republican member of the Senate, which makes him in place to be elected President pro tempore of the Senate should Republicans gain control of the body. Lugar previously served as Mayor of Indianapolis.

Richard Lugar is seeking a seventh term in the US Senate in the 2012 Election.

July 2011

July 5: Dick Lugar will report $900,000 in contributions to his campaign in the second quarter of fundraising. It is learnt that his senate reelection campaign has $3.5 million of cash in hand at the end of June. An email was sent to his supporters about his fundraising efforts in the second quarter. "We are proud that 87 percent of our individual donors are from Indiana,", the email said.

January 2011

January 18: Sen. Richard Lugar announces that he will seek a reelection for a seventh term as US Senator from Indiana. He announces that he will run for the 2012 Senate Election at a breakfast hosted by The Christian Science Monitor in Washington.

November 2010

November 17: Richard Lugar's campaign put out a poll which shows that Lugar has the highest favorable rating of any major politician in the state.
