Uma Bharti

Uma Ragini Bharti is an Indian politician. She is a politician of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

She was a Member of Parliament representing Khajurao seat in 1989. Later, she was reelected in 1991, 1996 and 1998. In 1999, she represented the Bhopal set and was elected to the Lok Sabha. She held various state-level portfolios of Human Resource Development, Tourism, Youth Affairs & Sports, and finally Coal & Mines in Prime Minister [[Atal Bihari Vajpayee]'s administration.

Uma Bharti led BJP's victory in the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections in 2003. She resigned as Chief Minister in August 2004.

Uma Bharti was suspended from the BJP party in November 2004, but her suspension was revoked in May 2005. She was expelled from the party later in the year. Uma Bharti was reinducted into BJP on June 7, 2011. BJP Party President Nitin Gadkari announced that Uma Bharti is back in the party at a press conference in New Delhi.
