The Polling for the United States Presidential Election, 2012 was held on 6 November 2012. President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have won the re-election.

The opinion polls showed a close contest between the Democrats and the Republicans. Incumbent President Barack Obama has won a second and final term as the President.

Polls open in 26 states as of 7:25 a.m. EST. Polls open in 37 states + DC as of 9:00 a.m. EST.

President Barack Obama has spent the day in Chicago and was joined by Joe Biden after the VP casts his vote. He finished his campaigning with three rallies late last night. He will hold his own election night rally at a convention centre in Chicago. Barack Obama voted two weeks ago in Chicago.

Mitt Romney held two rallies in Ohio and Pennsylvania today. He breaks tradition by campaigning on Election Day. Romney will hold election night rally in Boston. Mitt Romney and his wife votes in Belmont, Massachusetts.

First polls closed at 6 pm.

Approximately 90,000,000 have cast their vote today.

Republican nominee Mitt Romney has conceded the election at about 1:00 am EST. He called Barack Obama and congratulated him on the victory.

First Result

The First polling results of the day came in New Hampshire's Dixville Notch. Just as several opinion polls said, the result was a tie. Both Barack Obama and Mitt Romney received five votes each. The tie was the first in the history of Dixville Notch which opened poll shortly after midnight on each election day since 1960. The tiny New Hampshire town traditionally casts first in-nation votes.
