  • March 1, 2011: Election Commission of India announces six phase poll in West Bangal. Elections will held in 51,919 polling stations where 5,60,91,973 voters will cast their vote to elect their representatives for 294 assembly seats.
    • First Phase covers 54 seats and election will be held on April 18, 2011
    • Second Phase covers 50 seats and election will be held on April 23, 2011
    • Third Phase covers 75 seats and election will be held on April 27, 2011
    • Fourth Phase covers 63 seats and election will be held on May 3, 2011
    • Fifth Phase covers 38 seats and election will be held on May 7, 2011
    • Sixth Phase covers 14 seats and election will be held on May 10, 2011
  • May 2011: Trinamool Congress (TMC) wins the elections putting the Left parties out of power in the communist-strong hold state of West Bengal
